Research Topic: Maker’s Knowledge, Energetics, and Networked Communities of Potters in Ancient Greece

Eleni Hasaki is Professor of Anthropology at the School of Anthropology and a Professor of Classics at the Department of Religious Studies and Classics. She is the co-director of the Laboratory for Traditional Technology, where she has established a Ceramic Artist Residency with extensive research, teaching and outreach projects on Mediterranean potters' communities. Her research, funded by major institutions including NEH and Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies, focuses on the operational knowledge, economic strategies, and social networks of industrial communities in ancient Greece and the wider Mediterranean. She is the author and co-editor of three books, as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters. For the AY 2025-2026 she will be at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Princeton and an NEH-ASCSA fellow. Hasaki's commitment to teaching and service at the University of Arizona have been recognized with the 2024 Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award and with the SBS Deans Leadership Fellowship.
