Research Topic: Roman Imperial Cult in the Eastern Mediterranean
Eric is a PhD candidate in Classics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he specializes in the study of the Roman imperial cult in the Eastern Mediterranean, with particular attention to how local communities negotiated their relationship with imperial power at smaller provincial sites. His dissertation explores these dynamics primarily through epigraphic and archaeological evidence. Each summer, he excavates at Sardis, focusing on an extramural Lydian neighborhood destroyed in the Persian sack of 547 BC. He has also taken part in fieldwork at Lyktos in Crete and at Aphrodisias.
